Year 3 Collagraph Printing

This term, Year 3s are exploring print making. For our first art piece, students learning about collagraph printing (sometimes spelled collograph). In essence, a collagraph is a collage that is ink and printed.

Students took 2 classes to plan and create their collage. Year 3s used thick card stock and pva glue to build their collages.  They spent one class creating their two prints using white ink and black paper.

I am also teaching them to mount their art work, so they spent half a class mounting their art on cover paper using ruler lines and careful cutting!

  1. the white ink on black paper is stunning! These are really beautiful! I do a lot of printmaking but have not done collagraphs in a long time. You've inspired me to give them a shot again this year! :)

    1. Thanks for the lovely comments! I definitely recommend using thick card stock for building the collage as I have tried it with thin recycled cardboard and the detail didn't show up very well when you had more than 3 layers.
